The Jerunei Heritage Xperience aims to preserve and promote the cultural legacy of the Melanau community through an immersive digital experience that highlights the historical and spiritual significance of the Jerunei, a traditional burial pole for Melanau aristocrats. This experience is designed to educate users through interactive storytelling, 3D visualization, and cultural narration, showcasing the structure, symbolism, and rituals associated with Jerunei—including the use of durable belian wood, intricate carvings, and spiritual beliefs surrounding death and status. By reflecting on the transformation of Melanau funerary practices due to colonial and religious influences, the experience fosters cultural awareness and appreciation. Traditional sounds, Melanau language elements, and oral folklore are incorporated to evoke emotional engagement and authenticity. Ultimately, this digital heritage initiative inspires interest in real-world heritage tourism by linking users to physical sites in Mukah, such as Kampung Tellian, and encourages exploration of Sarawak’s living cultural treasures.
